Podocarpus (Podocarpus macrophyllus)

The Podocarpus, which can be grown as a shrub or small tree, has thick flat leaf foliage with 1-2 inch needles and yellow flower-like blooms in the spring. This shrub is basically pest and disease free and it grows in sun or shade making it a great choice for a low maintenance plant. It can grow to a height of 40 feet with a spread of 20 feet and is drought tolerant. This shrub can be easily trimmed and it is the plant most often used for the shaped topiaries at theme parks.
