East Palatka Holly (Ilex x attenuate)

The East Palatka Holly, which was discovered growing near East Palatka, Florida in 1927, is an evergreen that can be used as a hedge, a privacy screen, or an accent tree. It can grow to 30-45 feet in height with a spread of 10-15 feet. It grows in a symmetrical, pyramid shape at a moderate rate and does well in full sun to partial shade. The foliage consists of oblong green leaves that have a spiny margin and the flowers are white, cream, or gray with red berries that attract birds. The tree is low maintenance requiring very little pruning and having high tolerance to droughts and pests.
