Indian Hawthorn (Raphiolepis indica)

Indian Hawthorn (Raphiolepis indica)

The Indian Hawthorn, native to southern China, is a small to medium shrub grown throughout Florida as a foundation plant or in mass plantings as a groundcover. It is a member of the Rose family and is noted for its seasonal spectacular blooms of white or pinkish fragrant flowers and attractive evergreen foliage. The dark green leaves which turn crimson red in the fall are somewhat rounded with a leathery texture, and these leaves cluster at the ends of the branched stems providing a nice full appearance. This shrub adapts well to cold, is salt tolerant, and performs well in shade or sun.
