Ilex (Ilex)

Ilex or Holly plants are among the most common landscape plants in the United States with over 500 cultivated varieties. Florida has 11 native species with plants being found in almost every community from coastal scrub, tropical hammocks, and pine flatwoods to river floodplains. The most widespread holly of the native species in Florida is Dahoon Holly and the most common holly is Gallberry. Most hollies are evergreen and range from large upright plants to dwarf spreading plants. These plants prefer partial shade but most will tolerate full sun.
