Guava (Psidium cattleianum Sabine)

Guava (Psidium cattleianum Sabine)

The Strawberry Guava Shrub, also called pineapple guava or purple guava, can grow to approximately 15 feet in height. The shrub has a smooth trunk with shiny dark green aromatic leaves shaped like eggs that grow 2-4 inches long and 1-2 inches wide. The flowers are white with purple or yellow fruits that are edible. This shrub, which is native to the Atlantic coast of Brazil and introduced to Hawaii in the early nineteenth century, now can be found in many tropical regions of the world. It is very tolerant to a variety of environments and can thrive in dry to moist forests as well as in tropical and subtropical climates.
